Malescot-St-Exupery 1999

This 1999 is one of the finest efforts of the vintage. It offers up complex aromatics consisting of herbs, red and black fruits, minerals, acacia flowers, and licorice.

Palmer 1983

This wine goes from strength to strength, and is certainly a candidate for “wine of the vintage.”

Palmer 1990

This was the finest bottle of the 1990 Palmer I have yet tasted, and it appears I slightly underrated it in earlier reviews.

Palmer 1996

Deep garnet colour going a little brick. The nose is very forthcoming with a good intensity of earthy loam and black truffle aromas mingled with dark cherry, leather, tar and black olive.

Pavie 1993

As readers may have noted, I have been critical of recent efforts by Pavie because of their lean, austere, malnourished personalities.

Pavie 1998

A 50-year wine, this opaque purple-colored offering exhibits a strong, precise nose of black fruits, liquid minerals, smoke, and graphite.

Pavie-Decesse 1999

This is a strikingly delineated St.-Emilion with an opaque ruby/purple color, and aromas of black currants, blackberries, and wet steel/liquified minerals.

Pavie-Macquin 1999

The dense plum/purple-colored 1999 offers up aromas of truffles, underbrush, espresso, black cherries, and roasted meats.

Pavillon Rouge Du Chateau Margaux 1996

Lovely aromas of berries, light vanilla and cedar follow through to a medium-bodied palate, with fine tannins and a slightly austere finish.--'95/'96 Bordeaux retrospective.

Pavillon Rouge du Chateau Margaux 1999

This is an estate where the quality of the second wine is more than a simple afterthought.

Petit Village 1995

Soft, easygoing, straightforward, but a bit simple, this fully mature wine has notes of tapenade intermixed with smoke, tobacco, licorice, and sweet cherries and currants.

Petrus 1994

After several uninspiring efforts between 1978 and 1988, it is irrefutable that Christian Moueix and his flagship estate, Petrus, have rebounded with a vengeance,...

Petrus 1995

It is interesting how this wine continues to evolve. Unquestionably one of the vintage's superstars, the 1995 Petrus is taking on a personality similar to the extraordinarily backward, muscular 1975.

Petrus 1997

The backward 1997 (2,300 cases produced) needs 3-4 years of cellaring.

Pichon-Longueville Baron 1996

Pichon Longueville Baron's 1996 has turned out to be even better than I thought from cask.

Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1985

Fully mature, this wine shows some pink at the edge, a sweet nose of herb-tinged cherries and black currants intermixed with dusty notes and new oak.

Pichon-Longueville Comtesse de Lalande 1986

Just now emerging from a very clumsy dormant period, Pichon-Lalande’s dense ruby/purple-colored 1986 still has the color of a 4 or 5 year old wine.
